Announcing a new NZ Musical – Gallipoli written by Holly Meyer.  In brief, the show follows the story of the people involved and affected by the Gallipoli Campaign in 1915. Not only does the show focus on the soldiers and their terrible experiences at Anzac Cove, but also all the mothers, lovers and sisters who have lost their loved ones to the war. The musical manages to capture many of the tragic aspects of the war, and the grief of Juliana and Elaine when they lose Jake to the war (Elaine’s You Stare At Me; Juliana’s What Did You Do To Us, Child?). The soldiers are all excited about the ‘Great Adventure’ at the beginning of the play, but the belief of an adventure are soon put to rest when they finally land on the beach on that fateful day. The main themes of the show deal with courage, love and, inevitably, death. The musical is very long with thirty-nine main numbers (22 in Act One and 17 in Act Two), and has many opportunities for the cast from the leads to the chorus. The main leads include Juliana (the mother of Jake and Elaine, wife of Wayne); Elaine (a war nurse-sister of Jake, daughter of Juliana), Mary (lover of Jake, daughter of Melissa), and Melissa (Mary’s mother). There is much tragedy, yet the show manages to have a few more uplifting moments, such as Oh Dunedin So Fair late in Act Two. The show ends with the company in a memorial garden a whole year after the landings at Gallipoli, assuring the audience and themselves they will always remember the men who fought and died at Gallipoli.   If any society/school is interested in the production, go to http://www.musical.org.nz/other_members/gallipoli.htm   or make contact direct with Holly meyho913@student.otago.ac.nz to discuss it further.  Holly is our newest associate member and is keen to get her show out there in the musical theatre community.

New Releases from ORiGiN Theatrical
bare
- a pop opera
Book by Jon Hartmere and Damon Intrabartolo, Music by Damon Intrabartolo, Lyrics by Jon Hartmere  bare is the coming-of-age story of a group of high school seniors at a Catholic boarding school. Knowing their stay in this insular world is drawing to a close each must face the question "What next?" Answers are sought in the church confessional and in less formal confessionals; on stage, at a rave, and in the privacy of a well-locked dorm room. There, secrets crash about and settle, to be picked up by whoever is ready to further the journey. Almost entirely sung-through, bare is an opera drawing on all styles of contemporary music.

CAST: 7 Boys, 5 Girls, 1 Man, 2 Women + Additional Students (3 boys, 3 girls) Script and perusal cd now available for purchase.

Perfectly Frank the Francis of Assisi musical
Libretto by Melvyn Morrow (co-writer of Shout! & Dusty) and John Mallord A perfect follow up to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Francis of Assisi is probably the world’s most popular saint. His story of playboy turned friar is an inspiring reversal of the usual rags to riches tale. Francis of Assisi is famous for his love of animals, particularly birds, though any number of the dolly birds of his day pursued him as a rich teenage wild child. Francis of Assisi is also the patron saint of the environment. His Peace Prayer is much known, quoted and loved. As a song, it’s one of the many tuneful hits in PERFECTLY FRANK.
CAST: Any cast size and orchestra size.  Principals: 3 male, 2 female.

Script and Vocal Score now available for perusal.

New Show Releases From Hal Leonard

ELTON JOHN AND TIM RICE’S AIDA

Verdi’s classic opera came to the Broadway stage in 2000 – and who better to adapt this epic tale for a music theatre audience than two of the world’s most respected music theatre talents? Elton John really needs no introduction, but along with AIDA, he has collaborated on two other enormous music theatre hits of recent years: Disney’s The Lion King and Billy Elliot. On AIDA he collaborated with his Lion King partner, renowned lyricist Tim Rice. Rice is a legend among lyricists and has been part of the songwriting team for some of the most celebrated musicals of the 20th century including Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Beauty And The Beast and The Lion King.

With a writing team like this, it was hardly surprising that
AIDA ran on Broadway for nearly four years. Now, this rock odyssey through ancient Egypt is now available for the amateur stage! Elton John and Tim Rice's AIDA is a contemporary musical take on the grand classic tale of the love between a soldier and an enslaved princess – a love that condemns them to death, but ultimately transcends the vast cultural differences between the two warring nations, heralding an unprecedented time of peace and prosperity.

With a pop-rock score that features stirring ballads and rousing choral numbers,
Elton John and Tim Rice’s AIDA
is a modern crowd pleaser that embraces multi-cultural casting and exuberant dancing, staging and singing.

Contact us today for perusal copies, and get your applications in for 2008. Demand will no doubt be high, so make sure you get in quick!

THE WEDDING SINGER – THE NEW MUSICAL COMEDY

I defy you all to find me someone who doesn’t remember the 1980’s with joy, with just a slight wincing feeling when we remember the size of our shoulder pads. The Wedding Singer!

The hugely successful movie starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore was released in 1998.
Now this hit romantic comedy can come to life on your stage, with a brand new score and songs by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin.

Perusals will be available in the coming months, but get your requests in now to be the first to view this fabulous show!!

SHOUT - The Legend of the Wild One  - POST PRODUCTION MEDIA RELEASE

Gosford Musical Society is reveling in the unprecedented success of its recent sellout production of SHOUT. The Society appointed one of Aussie TV’s favorite sons and Central Coasts “Mr. Entertainment” Chris King (with over 35 years professional experience) to direct the production.  Following his two-sellout seasons for GMS of Cabaret & 42nd Street Chris assembled a cast of 75 talented performers and musicians. Add to this dazzling choreography, authentic costumes, a large multi-level set that transported audiences on a Rock’n’Roll rocket ride “dancing in the aisles” nostalgic theatrical journey back to the 50’s and 60’s and the days of “old tin shed” (The Sydney Stadium). Building on his extensive knowledge of JOK and the Rock and Roll era Chris spent many countless hours of research. Time spent talking with legends of the era including Little Pattie, Lucky Starr, Max Moore (JOK Road Manager), Alan Heffernan (Lee Gordon’s) business partner, members of the original Deltones and Dee Jays all combined to give Chris a real edge when tackling this amazing project.  Combining this edge with a cleverly constructed marketing and PR campaign devised by Chris and his team saw the original three-week season sold out months before the show opened. The society added another week plus an additional four performances and they also sold within hours of being on sale. All up over 8500 people excited theatre-goers saw the production, including a dazzling star studded red carpet opening night attended, by icons of the era, politicians and even David Mitchell one of the writers of the show.  The critics and public alike have been lavish with praise for this ultra high energy, fast paced humorous production of SHOUT! Many praise Chris’s understanding of comedy and drama and a unique ability to extract and motivate masterful and credible performances from his principle and ensemble amateur players.  Chris is available to advise, consult or Direct for other societies and theatre companies and especially keen to get involved with musical theatre in New Zealand. He can be contacted by e-mail on info@chrisking.com.au or by phone 02 43851030 or mobile 0412436246

David Spicer Productions Update. www.davidspicer.com
Theatre restaurant style comedy is very popular in Australia and is catching on in New Zealand. A few months back Ashburton Operatic made lots of money and had a ball staging Shenanigan's Wake by Tasmanian writer Daryl Peebles. It's set at the wake of Seamus Shenanigan...poor Seamus 'dies' of liver failure and it was his last wish that his mates from the boozer send him off in a manner he was accustomed.. Seamus wanted some whisky sprinkled over his grave but his mates insist it should be filtered through their kidney's first.
New Writer I have just taken on a new talent who is Australia's most popular theatre restaurant writer- Judith Prior. A keen kiwi theatre' bod' cornered me at the Invercargill conference and encouraged me to sign Judith up. As it happened she called me two weeks later.  Judith's plays (with popular music added by theatres) are staged 40 times a year. From her latest Opportunity Knocks -set in an Op Shop - to The Phantom of the Music Hall - there are 14 plays to choose from. The first six pages of all of Judith's play can now be read on line... http://www.davidspicer.com/jp.htm

Here is a testimonial from the Great Lakes Amateur Dramatic Society: "we have experienced 'sell out' performances with all of your plays staged by our group over the past eight years
. The most successful evenings have always been when the play has been performed in the convivial atmosphere of a dinner show and in smaller country towns , these Judith Prior productions have been one of the highlights of the year and a vital fund-raiser for the community.  Thanks to your plays, Judith, GLADS has been able to raise its profile in the area, generate much needed funds and entertain literally thousands of people over the last eight years. "

Jukebox Update.  Back to the 80's is having another totally awesome year in New Zealand.  Great productions are coming up from November 16 until December two performed by Napier Operatic and Rotorua Musical Theatre. They follow school productions by Gore High, St Margaret's Christchurch and Hamilton Girls. Disco Inferno - keeps spinning away. Levin Performing Arts kicked off in June - the next major amateur production is by the Mid Canterbury Children's Theatre in Ashburton in September. Schools have staged Disco Inferno at Otorohanga, Spotswood College Plymouth, St Bede's College Christchurch and South Otago High School.  There have been an unbelievable 100 productions world-wide. I keep getting requests in the strangest places ...the latest is China, Norway, Singapore Hong Kong and Zimbabwe. Tickets for the African premiere are 700 Zimbabwe dollars each. This works out at $2NZ.

Cruisin the Musical: The Show Must Go on!
I had the pleasure of seeing Cruisin the Musical for the first time at Coverdale Christian College in Sydney..under the Direction of one of the writers Pete Waterman. The lead could not do the show - so Pete came up with a novel solution. He flew in from Auckland the boy who sung the role a few months back at Waitakere College. The show must go on!  Waitakere College loved staging the New Zealand premiere in May.

"This was one of our best shows ever.  Both performers and audience absolutely loved it. This show is ideally suited for school production with lots of parts. 50's-style music was just that much easier for students to learn quickly. Great story - catchy music."  Stephen Nightingale

All About Style is a full-length stage musical created by lyricist Mike Hallett and composer Terry Hicks. Developed over the last four years with feedback from seasoned theatre personnel, this show is now ready for an enterprising producer or theatre company to bring to the stage. Based around Napier's annual Art Deco Weekend festival, the show seamlessly mixes 1930s big band swing, traditionally styled theatre numbers and modern pop ballads. Production designers can give reign to their imaginations with the flamboyant styles of the 1930s, yet the show can be staged with only a minimal set. Cast requirements are 6 lead characters, 7 supporting characters and the chorus. Read the synopsis, book and lyrics, and play song samples at www.allaboutstylemusical.com

STiFF - the play.  Advertised as an adult comedy. This was an absolute sell out in Whakatane.  The audiences were laughing all the way through the production and it was an absolute delight to see so many satisfied customers yet alone a satisfied Theatre treasurer with the funds it bought in for us!!! Theatre Whakatane had contact with the writer, April Phillips of Wellington and she was unable to attend opening night, however she sent notes of encouragement to the Company, and was keen to have any media report, photo's etc. She was disappointed we had not made a video as she would have loved to have seen that. She is armed with lots of photo's, programme etc. so that kept her happy. For any other Theatre Co. wanting to produce STiFF or any other other plays her website is www.aprilphillips.com or contact Gwenda for photos
STiFF Synopsis -  Angel Delight, the illegitimate daughter of a funeral parlour director, inherits the business when her father dies. Before she can sell the business and the land (which is more valuable) she has to continue to run the business as a funeral parlour for a further five years. Unfortunately she knows nothing about the funeral business but a lot about prostitution. Angel and her team of 'girls' (including a transvestite names Delilah) run an undercover massage parlour in the funeral home keeping up appearances despite the prying of disgruntled former employee Mr R. Swipe who felt he should have inherited the business. Suspenders, death by misadventure and unorthodox embalming techniques feature in this zany, quickfire comedy. April Phillips April began writing plays when she was at drama school where the tutors emphasized that, because there is so little regular acting work in New Zealand, actors should create their own works to produce and perform in. In 1996 April co-wrote and performed in Fluxion at Bats Theatre. She produced and appeared in her first full-length play, Killing Me Softly at Taki Rua Theatre later that year. This hard hitting exploration of assisted suicide was written around the time Michael Laws was trying to introduce euthanasia legislation into Parliament. As a member of the award winning comedy troupe “Hen’s Teeth” April wrote and performed her own comedy sketches and honed her skills in writing for laughs. This led to the play “STiFF” which April describes as a “modern farce”. April’s comedy is sharply influenced by the British comedies she grew up with including classics such as “Fawlty Towers”, and “The Two Ronnies”, and more recently absurd comedy such as “The Young Ones”, “Blackadder” and “Absolutely Fabulous”. STiFF - In this modern farce, April tackles two subjects which are usually handled somberly – funeral parlours and prostitution and she turns them into an hilarious situation comedy. April claims that this play is not for the “plastic raincoat brigade” who would be very disappointed. The fact that some of the characters are prostitutes simply sets up the situation. There is no sex, and nudity is limited to a corpse! It’s cheeky not vulgar. Rude not crude, and it promises lots of laughs. Awards 'STiFF' was one of four plays selected for the 2002 Adam Playreading Series, and was performed at Downstage Theatre, directed by Murray Lynch. 3rd Prize in the PANZ (Playwrights Association of New Zealand Inc) Playwriting Competition 2003.

Class of 77

A brand new musical, "Class of 77" has been successfully premiered in Sydney and is set to be hugely popular with theatre societies throughout Australia and New Zealand. The show is based around the 15 Year High School Reunion of a group of people who were in their final year in 1977 who meet up again in 1992. Actors can be in an age range from early twenties to late thirties. There are also some roles for older players, such as teachers etc. The show is written as a comedy, with a couple of serious plot themes included. The drama and comedy revolves around the interaction of the eight principal characters seeing each other for the first time in 15 years.

Act I is mostly based on flashbacks to 1977 and is designed to be seen as series of "snapshots", allowing for some affectionate nostalgia for this era as well as establishing each character and their relationship to the plot as a whole. Act II brings us to the 1992 reunion where the characters meet up again, find out what's been happening and resolve the issues left hanging at the end of Act I. The dramatic interest and much of the comedy comes from seeing how these people have changed during the intervening years.

Overall the show is designed to be a light-hearted look back to the late 70's in Australia/NZ, with songs which are reminiscent of the times. The score is 100% original and is pop/rock based. "Class of 77" was premiered in March 2006 in Sydney, and there are several productions in the works in Australia including one in Perth in November 2006. The musical has been snapped up by a number of theatre companies and high schools and looks set to become a really popular show. A full score is provided for a 6 piece band and a backing CD of studio recorded backings is also available. Royalties are 14% of box office but agents for the show Seltaeb Music Pty Ltd are making NZ societies a special offer. The first company to book rights to the show in NZ will be able to stage the show ROYALTY FREE, with absolutely no costs of any kind!!  For more info contact Seltaeb Music at seltaeb@bigpond.com or visit the website www.classof77.com.au

Hal Leonard Australia is excited to announce the release of two musicals that have become a part of our catalogue. They couldn’t be more different – one is a historical musical based in the gold-rush era, and the other is a hilarious musical take on a classic comic book hero.

IT’S A BIRD, IT’S A PLANE, IT’S SUPERMAN!

Book by: David Newman and Robert Benton  Based upon the comic strip “Superman”
Music By: Charles Strouse  Lyrics by: Lee Adams

Hal Leonard Australia is proud to add to our ‘Strouse collection’ this rollicking account of possibly the most well-known comic book hero of all. The hit composer/lyricist team that brought you Bye Bye Birdie teamed up again for this hilarious show. And for you trivia buffs out there – book-writers David Newman and Robert Benton went on to write the screenplay for the 1978 Superman – The Movie starring Christopher Reeve.

In this classic tale of good versus evil we meet our hero on the streets of metropolis ‘doing good’ as he foils robberies and saves citizens.  The people of Metropolis realise their dependency on Superman as they sing We Need Him.  Next we meet the mild-mannered Clark Kent at the Daily Panet where Superman receives the adoration of Lois Lane and the disdain of the ego maniac Max Mencken.  As Lois sings of her love for the man of steel there is a call from the renowned scientist Professor Abner Sedgwick.  Sedgwick has a problem that only Superman can solve.  His Nuclear reactor is malfunctioning and is hours away from reducing Metropolis to a pile of rubble.  Superman arrives at the reactor in the nick-of-time and averts disaster.  With this act we learn of Sedgwick’s plan to find Superman’s weakness.  He befriends Lois and uses her connections with Superman and her position at the paper to find such a weakness. The mania of Mencken escalates as he creates a plan to expose superman’s real identity using everything at his disposal, including his girlfriend.  When there is a disaster in Metropolis, the citizens quickly turn on Superman, blaming him for not saving the day.  Sedgwick uses this to his advantage and recruits Mencken and some hired goons – the Flying Lings – in a plan to bring Superman to his knees.  Sedgwick almost manages to remove Superman from the metropolis skyline when he double crosses one too many people.  Superman is restored to his former self and saves the day after almost having his secret identity revealed. Cast: 14 plus chorus  Orchestra: 17 (strings optional)

RUSH! THE STAGE MUSICAL

Music by: Kevin Lynch  Lyrics by: David John  Book by: David John

We couldn’t be happier to announce our first New Zealand-written musical into our catalogue. With a gripping plot and a variety of musical styles, companies will find something in this show to suit everyone. The premiere production in Dunedin starred Kiwi music theatre sensation Darryl Lovegrove as Duncan McKenzie.   Producers have the option of a full 17-piece orchestration or a CD backing track for performance, making a stellar production accessible to all.

SYNOPSIS:  Sarah and Duncan McKenzie arrive in the ‘new country’ as Jackie O’Fea brings news of gold discoveries. Leaving his family for the diggings, Duncan seizes his chance for freedom from the slavery of the 19th century working class life, but his dreams are dashed as tragedy strikes.  Duncan’s close friend Nathan Hall is drowned in a massive flood and Jackie O’Fea,a trusted friend, shows his true colours. The widow Millie Hall is raped by O’Fea. With the threat of harm to her baby she is powerless.  With danger at every turn, luck proves to be no friend to Duncan McKenzie. Dan Nolan is murdered by O’Fea’s henchmen after a card game.  Wrongfully accused Duncan faces the gallows. It is only now he sees that no amount of gold could replace the love of his family.   After a macabre trial and Sarah’s desperate plea for clemency Duncan is hanged. Sarah visits the camp for answers and finds that rough justice can be as swift and ferocious as the mighty swollen Arrow river.

DAVID SPICER - NEW RELEASES

WIND IN THE WILLOWS  Based on the classic by Kenneth Grahame - this is a sparkling new musical adaptation by Juran Jones and John McKenna. First staged by the Roo Theatre of Kiama. When the Mole becomes tired of spring cleaning he ventures out to the river where he meets the Water Rat. Together they embarl on adventure through the wild wood. Cast 27 Principals and chorus. Orch: Flute, Brass, Strings, B Guitar, Horn, Keyboard, Vibraphone, Bass and Cello.

A BUNCH OF RATBAGS  A funny, abrasive and confronting look at the teenage Bodgie and Widgie gangs of the late 50s in inner city Melbourne. With its themes of social belonging and acceptance, and the struggle of a generation of youth to find its place in society, the show is as relevant today as it was in 1966 when it first opened at the late lamented Emerald Hill Theatre. Written by Australia's most prolific music duo, Peter Pinne and Don Battye, it features an eclectic score, that mixes rock 'n' roll, music-hall and big ballads, to exuberant life.   A brand new album is available from Bayview Records www.bayviewrecords.com and Middle 8 Music www.middle8.com from October 31.  Script and score available now from DSP Cast 6 M and 4F

And from David:    From November 9 until November 30 the Office of DSP will only have a skeleton staff.  My assistant will be able to meet basic perusals only during that period. Please place substantial orders before then. I will still be on email.  I have the onerous duty of first visiting New York on a 'fact finding mission' .  Then I will be honoured to attend the UK Premier of Paris by the Starlight Theatre of Brighton....near London.  Even though this will be the 11th production of Paris - it will be the first time the co-writer David Mackay (who started work on the project in 1989) has actually seen the show performed.  (The 12th production next year will be in Rockhampton Queensland in March at the Pilbeam Theatre.)  I am also honoured to attend the wedding of the writer of Disco Inferno Justin Sepple.  He may well propose a toast at the reception to the 20 theatres and schools who have booked productions of Disco Inferno since it was released through Josef Weinbergers only a few months ago.  Check out www.davidspicer.com

New NZ Shows:

"Popular Girl" is an original musical written by Ross Booth of Hamilton, with music arranged by Michael Booth.   Set in 1943/4 and based on real incidents, it is a nostalgic look at that period in our history when the "American invasion" changed the face of New Zealand.   The plot revolves around two love stories with a poignant twist to one of them.   The musical has 18 original songs in the style of the Big Band era,  several big dance numbers, a cast of 8 males and females aged 16 to 60,  and requires a large mixed chorus.  Originally staged in Hamilton the musical was an outstanding success and has since been staged in Feilding and Takaka with rave reviews, sellout audiences and extended seasons.   Because of  it's  wartime setting the musical is particularly relevant to Anzac Day.   For further information please contact, Ross and Lorna Booth, 8 Perindale Drive, Chartwell, Hamilton, Ph: 07 855 5851, Fax 07 8556 953, email  rossbooth@actrix.co.nz

“Keep them doggies movin’, Rawhide”.

In June 2005, the Balfour Theatre Company produced the western comedy “Beyond Rawhide!”.  Taking the local talent, throwing in some great songs that everyone knew the words to, mixing it with some gags, shoot outs and dancing, the Balfour Theatre Company came up with the recipe for another great show. Directed by Viv Beaton and locally written by Al McKee, “Beyond Rawhide!” is your typical western where the good guys eventually win over the baddies and the guy gets the girl…wrapped in lots of humour.  Produced in a Theatre Restaurant style, the 2 ½ hour long show ran from 10th – 18th June, with the group putting on an extra performance this year to accommodate the growing number of people who want to come and experience “theatre restaurant” at its best – not to mention see their family and friends “acting up” on the stage.  Society member contacts should have already received a synopsis of the show for their perusal.  If you haven’t received one, please email Al McKee at Dunworkin@xtra.co.nz or phone him on (03) 2025 552.  Or check out the MTNZ website for further info.

SEVEN LITTLE AUSTRALIANS or “A SUMMER STORM”
Music by David Reeves, Script and Lyrics by John Palmer and Peter Yeldham

The story revolves around the Woolcott children.  They are holy terrors – everyone says so!  How Esther Woolcott only 21 herself and the second wife of Captain Woolcott manage the brood of 7 children is amazing.

Her loving care acts as a buffer when the Captain’s anger is raised by their outlandish behaviour  Bunty, Pip and the Little General, together with their sisters Judy, Meg, Baby and Nell embarrass their remote father in front of his Commanding Officer, wreck their weekly French lesson, and generally play up until eventually Judy; the ring leader is banished to Miss Burton’s Academy in the Blue Mountains. In no time the discipline at the Academy drives her to run away home. Reunited with her family after a perilous journey, they all go to the country for a holiday. During a violent thunderstorm Judy bravely saves the life of the Little General but loses her own. With breaking hearts, the family goes home to Sydney to pick up the threads of their lives.

Hal Leonard Australia is pleased to announce the release of two beautiful and challenging new shows, Jane Eyre and John and Jen.   Complimentary Perusals are now available! Please visit our website at www.halleonard.com.au for a Perusal Request Form. Be the first to premiere one of these brilliant new shows from two of Broadway most exciting up-and-coming composers.

Royalty discounts are also available – call us today for more details!

Jane Eyre - This is a five times Tony nominated, period piece based on the Charlotte Bronte novel.  This has not yet been produced in New Zealand and would be a great production to have as a premiere.  It has a great line-up of songs and strong characters.  It follows Jane from a child in an orphanage into adulthood and has strong chorus work which creates an impressive sound.  John Caird (book and lyrics) is a noted writer and director whom has written revised versions of Peter Pan and Candide and has written the book for Children of Eden (Music by Stephen Schwartz.  The music is written by Paul Gordon whom is most notably known for his songs written for the country/pop vacalists (He co-wrote the theme to Ally McBeal).

This is a great piece to get your creative team inspired to build a show that has never been seen in this country in terms of period costume scenic design and lighting/sound design.

John and Jen - A truly original musical that takes a look at the complexities of relationships between brothers and sisters and parents and children written by Andrew Lippa and Tom Greenwald.  Andrew Lippa is the creative genius behind The Wild Party and has recently been in Australia performing at the Adelaide Cabaret festival.  Tom Greenwald is Creative Director at Spotco, a theatrical advertising and marketing company.  He has also written a screenplay Sweet Emotion and is currently working on a second.
John and Jen is the story of Jen and her relationship with the two Johns of her life: her younger brother, who was killed in Vietnam, and his namesake, her son who is trying to find his way in a confusing world. With a cast of only two people, John & Jen is a tour-de-force for two actors who take Jen and John from childhood, through adolescence and beyond.

This beautifully scored piece has been re-orchestrated for the Adelaide Cabaret Festival for piano, string quintet and percussion.  John & Jen is a musical about connections, commitments and the healing of the human heart.

RENT

Book, Music and Lyrics by Jonathan Larson

In New York’s East Village, a community of artists, writers and musicians struggles to cope with life, love and living with HIV/AIDS. Roger is trying to write his perfect song, and has not left his apartment in six months until he meets the tragic Mimi…..his roommate Mark is trying to write his perfect film but can’t seem to connect to the world around him. All around them their friends fall in and out of love, and try to find a meaning to life in the late 1990s. Containing songs that quickly became music theatre classics such as ‘Seasons Of Love’, Rolling Stone Magazine called Rent “A raw and riveting milestone in musical theatre”.

TICK, TICK... BOOM!

Book, Music and Lyrics by Jonathan Larson

A musical look at the courage it takes to follow your dreams, Tick, Tick... Boom! is Jonathan Larson's autobiographical tale of a young composer on the brink of turning 30 and falling into oblivion. His girlfriend wants to get married and move out of the city (TICK,), his best friend is making big bucks on Madison Avenue (TICK...), yet Jon is still waiting on tables and trying to write the great American musical (BOOM!). URINETOWN

Book by: Greg Kotis

Lyrics by: Greg Kotis and Mark Hollmann

Music by: Mark Hollmann

One of the most uproariously funny musicals in recent years, URINETOWN is a hilarious tale of greed, corruption, love, and revolution in a in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year draught, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides he's had enough, and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom! Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, URINETOWN is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be, URINETOWN catapults the “comedic romp” into the new millennium with its outrageous perspective, wickedly modern wit, and sustained ability to produce gales of unbridled laughter.

CARMEN – THE MUSICAL

An adaptation of Bizet's opera for Amateur Theatre Companies by David Badger and Bobbie Field

Music by Georges Bizet. Original Book and Lyrics by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halevy.

David Badger and Bobbie Field have made Bizet's thrilling operatic masterpiece a realistic challenge for amateur theatre. Their adaptation had its first production at Westcliff On Sea by the Little Theatre Club (who commissioned it) in 1990 and it has since been staged successfully by many UK societies. Bizet's glorious music for the story of tragic factory girl Carmen and her relationships with Don Jose and Escamillo ensures that Carmen remains one of the most popular of all musical theatre works.

DRAGON FIRE takes its inspiration from ancient Japanese folk tales. It tells of a village terrorised by a ferocious fire-eating Dragon. The story ends with Patches' triumphant and ingenious defeat of the Dragon.

DRAGON FIRE was written for an all-girl cast, but can equally be performed by boys or mixed groups. The size of the cast is flexible. There are seven main parts, and six groups of other characters, who can double up as necessary. The ideal age range is 9-13.
